The two equal shareholders of DUW’s holding company, DUW Deutsche Universität für Weiterbildung GmbH, are strong, complementary partners in the academic and business spheres: Freie Universität Berlin and the Stuttgart-based Klett group. This public–private partnership assures DUW’s students of comprehensive academic expertise in the logistics of teaching and learning, in distance studies, and in counselling and supervision.
Freie Universität Berlin is synonymous with outstanding academic quality. It is one of the nine German universities that have been distinguished under the Initiative for Excellence, a state and federal programme to promote outstanding institutions as “beacons of science.” This means that Freie Universität Berlin is in the top tier of German academic institutions, and enjoys special funding for its forward-looking projects.
The Klett Group, with its long experience as one of Europe’s leading private education providers, guarantees the professional organization of distance studies at DUW and the excellent counselling and supervision that students receive. The Klett Group is made up of nearly sixty companies with activities in 18 countries, and educates some 185,000 students in its distance-learning schools and universities.
