FWB

The Centre for Continuing Education Research and Education Management is devoted primarily to applied research in continuing education. In this field it also supports the design of research-based master’s degree courses and certificate programmes at DUW. FWB’s work in cooperation with its partners combines research, consulting and continuing education to advance the development of coherent concepts of lifelong learning in institutions and in education policy.

Research Projects and Conferences

Research Colloquium on Continuing Education

From April to July, 2009, FWB held a joint research colloquium together with the Prof. Harm Kuper and the Department of Continuing Education and Education Management, Freie Universität Berlin, on current issues in continuing education research. Continuing education researchers from other German universities were invited to this colloquium with the goal of establishing a network of scientists involved in continuing education research.

Professional Development Doctoral Collegium

A core activity of FWB is the establishment of a collegium for working doctoral candidates with the theme “Learning Throughout Life in the Knowledge and Network Society.” The collegium’s focus is on the topics of continuing education research, education management, personnel development and teaching and learning research.

The collegium brings together doctoral candidates who are employed and preparing their dissertations at various universities and departments, supervised by professors in the collegium. The collegium offers a common programme of study and uses a dedicated Internet platform for academic communication.

The purpose of the doctoral collegium is to bundle research work on lifelong learning and to take advantage of synergies by forming clusters with the transdisciplinary approach that results from combining the individual thesis projects.

The collegium’s programme of study includes a summer school with contributions by all of the professors involved. The summer programme is concerned with qualitative and quantitative research methods, approaches and instruments of evaluation and accompanying research, and action research.

The doctoral collegium is organized by FWB in cooperation with Prof. Harm Kuper and the Department of Continuing Education and Education Management at Freie Universität Berlin.

The following institutions are also expected to participate:

  • University of Bielefeld: Prof. Wolfgang Jütte
  • Technische Universität Dresden: Prof. Andrä Wolter
  • University of Graz: Prof. Werner Lenz
  • University of Hamburg: Prof. Florian Schramm

Start: 2010
