The course offerings in the Department of Business and Management feature programmes of study to deepen students’ expertise in the area of Compliance and in Security Management and Enterprise Security. These courses have been developed with valuable input from the applied research of the Research Institute for Compliance, Security Management and Enterprise Security (FORSI) at DUW.
The Department of Business and Management is also involved in developing a “Leadership Development and Lifelong Learning” programme. A continuing education programme on Family Business and Entrepreneurship and another on Consulting are currently being evaluated with regard to business demand, and will be added in 2010–2011.
DUW already offers certificate programmes in the field of general management.
DUW provides personnel development services to both for-profit and non-profit organizations. The university supports organizations by developing programmes of study that meet their specific requirements for continuing education and combine the advantages of in-house professional development, learning in the workplace, and courses offered by formal educational institutions.
A major research field of the Department of Business and Management is Compliance, Security Management and Enterprise Security. In keeping with the department’s transdisciplinary research approach, compliance is conceived as a holistic, process-oriented challenge, and security management and enterprise security are dealt with as components of an integrated security concept. Research in security management in particular examines the working principles and the professional environment of external security services provided by surveillance companies, security technology companies, security equipment firms, security consultants and other service providers. The various aspects of the security of both private and public enterprises are also examined, including issues related to their internal operational and organizational security.
In addition, as part of DUW’s mission as a continuing education university, the Department of Business and Management studies the special requirements placed on leadership concepts in the knowledge and network society, and the role of executives in the realization of lifelong learning.
The scientific development of suitable management concepts for professionals is an important principle of the department’s continuing education programmes in management subjects.
