Security Management and Enterprise Security
Guaranteeing security is not simply the duty of the state and the international community. The security of infrastructures for example is both a public and a private interest. It is also a goal of businesses, which must protect themselves from internal and external risks in order to pursue their core activities. Business need to protect their buildings and machinery, and to defend themselves against IP violations and IT intrusion. In the complex corporate world, the security issues throughout the value chain must be analyzed holistically in order to prevent risks that threaten the very existence of an enterprise. Security issues can be addressed in-house, or outsourced to the security industry. The master’s degree course enables graduates to develop, implement and monitor effective security strategies.
What sort of working environment can you expect as a security expert? As an employee in the security industry, you may be responsible for marketing and providing security services to businesses. Or you may work as a security manager in a corporation that chooses to provide for its own security needs. Your responsibilities depend on the company’s value chain, and may include plant security, securing the IT infrastructure, or defending against brand and product trademark violations. Or you may have a security management position at the intersection of the private and public sectors. In such a role, you protect critical infrastructures in cooperation with police agencies, whether in air, rail, port or maritime security, or in penal facilities. In all cases, you analyze and evaluate complex security situations and problems, and provide appropriate business solutions.
