General Professional Studies (Management Programme)
Modern professional life demands more than specialist skills and abilities. In businesses and organizations of all sizes, in all industries, coping with the complex tasks of an increasingly project-oriented working world requires not only substantive and methodological knowledge, but also well-developed interdisciplinary skills.
The programme in General Professional Studies enables you to build these core skills in six scientifically based and practically oriented courses. You will lay the foundation for your future professional success by strengthening your management and personal skills in change management, in enterprise management and controlling, in project management and practice transfer; in knowledge management, in leadership and in cross-cultural communication.
Learning Outcomes
The General Professional Studies programme supports you in dealing with complex management duties by expanding and developing your specialized management skills and your personal and social skills.
After completing the programme, you will be able to analyze processes of change in organizations, and thus to increase the chances of successful organizational action through change management. You will be able to translate the processes, approaches and elements of controlling to your day-to-day work in the context of enterprise management. You will acquire the skills in project management and practice transfer to utilize best practices in your projects and to fulfill the conditions of successful project management.
Furthermore, you will be able to build suitable knowledge management systems to permit efficient, reflective use of the stores of complex information and knowledge throughout your working environment. You will also develop lasting leadership and cross-cultural skills. Thus you will be able to analyze your leadership behaviour and develop specific alternative strategies for leadership action in your professional practice. In addition, you will be able to move among different cultures, roles, and functional doctrines, including expert cultures, and to take an appropriate attitude in the face of cross-cultural tensions in your professional context.

Duration:
- 8 months
- The period of supervised study can be extended by four months without additional fees.
Prerequisites:
- A first academic degree
or - Equivalent qualifications: Secondary leaving certificate with qualification for higher education, completed vocational training and at least two years’ work experience with supervisory duties
or - Equivalent qualifications: Completed vocational training and and at least five years’ work experience with supervisory duties

Your achievement in the General Professional Studies certificate programme can be counted towards a master’s degree course in at DUW if you fulfill the admission requirements for the given course.

It is aimed at all those who want to broaden their general management abilities as well as their personal skills in order to extend their radius of professional action in regard to the complex responsibilities of day-to-day work .

- Working professionals all industries and functional areas who want comprehensive support in dealing with management duties
- Graduates in all fields and disciplines who want to acquire additional management and personal skills after several years’ work experience
We recommend work experience and current employment as prerequisites for this certificate programme. This ensures that you can directly transfer the skills you acquire to your professional practice.
