Prof. Peter Filzmaier is a political scientist. Since 2006 he has been Professor of Democracy Studies and Policy Research and Director of the Department of Political Communication at Danube University, Krems. Since 2010 he has been Professor of Political Communication at the University of Graz, and since 2007 he has been Managing Partner of the Institute for Strategic Analysis (ISA) in Vienna.

Prof. Filzmaier’s areas of emphasis are public communication, political and electoral analysis, civic education and participation research, politics and media, the Internet and democracy, and political systems in comparison (especially political systems and processes in the EU and the US).

Doctoral studies in political science at the University of Vienna; 2001, habilitation in political science at the universities of Innsbruck and Klagenfurt; to 2004, Associate Professor of Political Science, University of Innsbruck; to 2006, Director, Department of Civic Education and Policy Research, University of Klagenfurt; former Secretary General of the Austrian Political Science Association (AuPSA).

Since 2010, Research Associate and Course Director of the master’s degree course in European Public Affairs in the Department of Communication at DUW, Berlin. Studied political science with emphasis on European Integration at the University of Cologne and at the University of Paris, Panthéon-Sorbonne. 2004, M. A. in European Political and Administrative Studies, College of Europe, Bruges. Various academic activities and internships in Cologne, Vienna, Johannesburg, and Brussels, including internships with the European Parliament and the Friedrich Ebert Foundation, Brussels.
