Prof. Monika Schäfer-Korting studied pharmacology and received her doctorate in 1977, and her habilitation in 1989, at the University of Frankfurt am Main. From 1978 to 1979 she was a postdoctoral researcher at Technische Universität, Munich.
From 1992 to 1994 she was interim professor at Freie Universität Berlin. In 1994 she became the first holder of a new chair in Pharmacology and Toxicology in the Institute for Pharmacology at Freie Universität Berlin. From 1997 to 1999 she served as Vice-President for Natural Sciences and Research at Freie Universität Berlin. From 2003 to 2006 Prof. Schäfer-Korting coordinated the research alliance on measuring skin resorption with bioengineered human skin, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research. Since 2003 she has been the spokeswoman of DFG Research Group 463, “Innovative Drugs and Delivery Systems.”
Since 2004 Prof. Schäfer-Korting has been a member of the Veterinary Ethics Committee of the University of Vienna. Since 2005 she has been a member, and Chair of the Scientific Advisory Board, of the Federal Institute for Risk Assessment, Berlin. She has been Vice-President of Freie Universität Berlin since 2007. At DUW, Prof. Schäfer-Korting is Academic Director of the master’s degree programme in Drug Research and Management.
