Change Management
Shaping Processes of Change
Rapid change is a characteristic of today’s working world. The success of today’s enterprises and organizations largely depends on how well they are able to react to changing conditions. Because changes usually bring uncertainty, employees often perceive them as dangers and risks rather than opportunities.
This makes it all the more important to ensure expert supervision during changes that are necessary in businesses and organizations. The purpose of professional change management is to shape and communicate all the activities and decisions involved in implementing new strategies, structures, systems, processes or behaviours; that is, the activities intended to effect changes over several units of an organization.
The certificate program in change management examines the processes that go on inside an organization to develop an understanding that enables you to shape them appropriately. The course presents approaches to implementing change processes and reasons for the resistance to change that arises on both the individual and organizational levels, and analyzes the organization’s supporting structures for dealing with resistance. In this way you acquire the necessary skills to manage changes actively and constructively.
Learning Outcomes
The certificate program in Change Management enables you to analyze and shape the different phases in planned organizational change. On completion of the program, you will be able to formulate the conditions on which the success or failure of a process of change depends based on your own experience in dealing with change. You will be able to determine responsibilities and roles in an organizational process of change. In this way you will be able to supervise model processes of change through all the phases of project management, and draw up an implementation plan to realize a projected change in the context of your professional activity.

Course Content
In the certificate programme in Change Management, you will study the principal phases of processes of change in organizations. The programme defines change management as planned change in a social system. Accordingly, you will begin by discussing approaches to change processes and developing design models for them. You will examine personnel and organizational development techniques. Furthermore, you will study the appropriate use of communication and the establishment of suitable communication structures. Such structures enable you to respond appropriately to resistance that arises to processes of change on the individual and organizational levels. In the certificate programme, you will analyze the reasons why employees respond to change with scepticism and rejection, and examine the organizational structures that support you in dealing with these reactions.
The content of the certificate programme is oriented after the demands of your professional practice. In the ideal case, you’ll bring your own change project to the course and work through it scientifically during your studies at DUW. Whether or not you have the opportunity to do that, the programme devotes particular attention to ensuring your lasting ability to apply the skills you acquire in your day-to-day work.
