Prof. Dr. Monika Schäfer-Korting has held the chair in Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at the Freie Universität Berlin (Free University of Berlin) since 1994. Her research areas are in the field of innovative drugs, particularly in dermatology, as well as the development of alternatives to animal models for the testing of chemicals and drugs. She is involved in different research projects of sponsors such as BMBF, DFG, and EU and on the board of directors of the Gesellschaft für Dermopharmazie (Society of Dermopharma-cology). At Deutsche Universität für Weiterbildung – Berlin University for Professional Studies she is General Program Director of the Master’s program Drug Research and Management.

Dipl.-Soz. Dr. Eva Maria Bäcker ist wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin am Institut für Bildungswissenschaft und Medienforschung der FernUniversität Hagen. Dort ist sie unter anderem zuständig für die Arbeitsbereiche Online-Lernen in Europa, Betreuung von Online-Studierenden, Didaktische Grundlagen des Onlinelernens, Planung und Gestaltung von Lernmaterialien für Online-Angebote sowie Instructional Design und Lernoberflächen. Ihre  beruflichen Schwerpunkte liegen in den Bereichen qualitative Forschungsmethoden, Arbeits- und Organisationspsychologie sowie Ethnologie. Im Rahmen von Forschungsprojekten beschäftigt sie sich mit Kompetenzforschung und Internationaler Fernstudienforschung.

Dr. Tobias Boeckh is patent attorney with HERTIN Anwaltssozietät in Berlin. He studied chemistry at Freie Universität Berlin and obtained a PhD in biochemistry at the Max-Planck-Institut für Molekulargenetik in Berlin in the group of Prof. Dr. H.-G. Wittmann working on the three-dimensional structure of ribosomes. Afterwards he became patent attorney and today he is admitted as German and European Patent, Trademark and Design Attorney. He is a specialist in intellectual property law with a focus on BioTech patent matters.

Beate Brüggmann studied pharmacy at Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt a.M. In 1994, she was approbated as a pharmacist and worked in different community pharmacies. She also held various teaching positions in Dresden and Berlin.

Dr. Jörg Brüggmann studied pharmacy at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität in Frankfurt a.M. 1990 he received his PhD in pharmaceutical chemistry at Freie Universität Berlin (Free University) with Professor Hans-Dieter Höltje. He held various positions as a pharmacist and became appointed leading pharmacist at the central pharmacy of the Unfallkrankenhaus Berlin – ubk in 1999. Jörg Brüggmann is member of the Arzneimittelinformationsdienst (AMID – drug information project) of the Apothekerkammer Berlin. In 2003, he was appointed Pharmazierat h.c. by the Gesundheitssenat Berlin.

Dr. Eva Cendon ist Bildungswissenschaftlerin und Studiengangleiterin des berufsbegleitenden Masterstudiengangs Bildungs- und Kompetenzmanagement am Department Bildung der DUW. Ihre Schwerpunkte in Forschung und Lehre umfassen wissenschaftliche Weiterbildung, lebenslanges Lernen und die Konsequenzen für Hochschulen, bildungspolitische Konzepte wie der Europäische Qualifikationsrahmen für lebenslanges Lernen (EQR), Kompetenz- und Lernergebnisorientierung und ihre Umsetzung im Rahmen von grundständigen und weiterbildenden Studiengängen, Praxisforschung als Forschungsansatz für die Verschränkung von Theorie und Praxis.

Alexandra Gruber holds a degree in Pharmacy from the University in Vienna and an Executive MBA degree jointly organized by the University of Business Administration and Economics, Vienna, Austria, and the University of Minnesota. In 2006, she started a postgradual program in Finance at the Danube University Krems together with the University of British Columbia (UBC), Vancouver. It was then that Alexandra Gruber discovered her interest in the field of venture capital and entrepreneurship for biotech startups, and this also became the focus of her master thesis. Prof. Dr. Michael Hildebrand studied pharmaceutical sciences at the Freie Universität, Berlin and qualified as a pharmacist in 1981. He completed his PhD Thesis on Pharmacokinetics of Nafronyl at the FU, Berlin in 1983. He is currently Professor for Industrial Pharmacy at the FSU, Jena. In 2010, he joined the advisory board of the Berlin University for Professional Studies (DUW, Berlin) for Drug Research and Management. Prof. Hildebrand has published approx. 100 articles in various scientific journals and textbooks and is a member of various scientific societies. With regards to his practical career, Prof. Hildebrand has held various positions with Schering AG; Bayer Schering Pharma AG in different functions of pre-clinical development, pharmacokinetics, global clinical development, and analytical development since 1983, acting as Qualified Person and Pharmaceutical Expert. In 2003, he was appointed as Senior Vice President of Global Pharmaceutical Development. In 2008, he founded HILDEBRAND PHARMA CONSULTING. Currently, Prof. Hildebrand acts as consultant to various life science/pharma projects, with a focus on Pharma research and development, change management, biopharmaceutics, CMC, auditing, QP support, and GXPs.

Prof. Dr. Manfred Jung is Professor for Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg. In 1993 he obtained a PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry with Prof. Wolfgang Hanefeld (Marburg) and was subsequently a DFG Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Ottawa (Prof. Tony Durst, 1993–1994). He then started his own research as a group leader at the Institute of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster (1994–2003) before he moved to Freiburg. He obtained his Habilitation in Pharma-ceutical Chemistry in 2000. He served as Vice Dean of Teaching Affairs (Studiendekan) for Pharmacy in Freiburg from 2004–2008. His main research fields are inhibitor synthesis and screening assay development in the field of epigenetics.

Dr. Friedhelm Kirmeier is Head of Facility Management and Industrial Method in the manufacturing site Frankfurt am Main Insulins at Sanofi-Aventis Deutschland GmbH. He obtained a PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University Bonn (Prof. Dr. Hermann Josef Roth). In 1984 he joined Hoechst AG, Frankfurt am Main. During the last 26 years he has been responsible for various areas of manufacturing like solids, semisolids and steriles as well as for manufacturing strategy.

Prof. Dr. Burkhard Kleuser has held a chair in the Department of Toxicology at the Institute of Food Science of the University of Potsdam since 2009. After studying food chemistry and biochemistry, he began research at the Medical Center of Georgetown University (Washington D.C.) with a grant from the German Research Foundation. He later obtained a state doctorate in pharmacology and toxicology at the Freie Universität Berlin, and then a professorship at the Institute of Pharmacy at the same university. One focus of his research is the examination of sphingolipids in physiological and patho-physiological conditions. Burkhard Kleuser is also interested in the development of in vitro methods for pharmacological and toxicological testing. In 2008, he received a teaching award from the Freie Universität Berlin.

Jan Albert Kresken, LL.M. has been working in the field of Healthcare Law for several years. During that time he has developed his expertise in the field of Competition and Pharmaceutical Law. He currently works as pupil barrister in the district of the Oberlandesgericht Düsseldorf.
Jan Kresken holds a degree in Law from the Westfälische-Wilhelms-Universität Münster and a master’s degree (LL.M.) in competition law, economics, and policy from the University of East Anglia in Norwich (UK). After his studies, he began his PhD in Competition Law at the Universität Münster and worked as research assistant for the law firm Clifford Chance, Düsseldorf. In 2009, he began to work as pupil barrister for the German Bundeskartellamt (Federal Cartel Office) and the law firms Clifford Chance (Düsseldorf) and Dierks & Bohle (Berlin), which both are specialized in Healthcare Law.

Friedhelm Leverkus holds a masters degree in Statistics he obtained from the University of Dortmund. He started his professional career in 1988 at the Social Science Research Institute in Dortmund. In 1991 he joined Pfizer, working as a biometrician, and was appointed as Head of the Biometric Operations in 1995. The department was responsible for biometric support in planning, conduct, analysis and interpretation of all clinical trials and non-interventional studies sponsored by Pfizer Germany. In 2006 he became Senior Scientific Advisor. In this role he advises Medical Affairs, Outcomes Research, Evidence Based Medicine, and Legal on methodological issues.

Dr. Johannes Lugger, promovierter Betriebswirt, ist seit 2007 Fachbereichsleiter an der Volkshochschule Innsbruck. Er ist verantwortlich für die Bereiche IT, Persönlichkeitsentwicklung und kaufmännische Fächer und arbeitet in der Buchhaltung mit. Als Assistent des Fachhochschulstudiengangs Management & IT des Management Center Innsbruck sammelte Lugger von 2003 bis 2006 Erfahrungen bei der Organisation und Verwaltung eines vierjährigen Vollzeitstudiengangs. Prof. Dr. Jörg Luy has been teaching animal welfare and ethics at the Veterinary Faculty of the Freie Universität Berlin since 2004. With a background in philosophy (M.A.) and veterinary medicine (specialist in animal welfare), he is head of the university’s Institute of Animal Welfare and Behaviour. He serves as Animal Welfare Officer of the Veterinary Faculty and is member of the Animal Experimentation Committee of the state of Berlin. While his research is about normative animal protection strategies, his consulting experience covers a range of issues, including the correct administration of the Animal Welfare legislation to the applications of scientists for authorization of animal experiments.

Dr. Reinhard Nibler is a physician by training with board certifications in anesthesiology, emergency medicine, and medical quality management; he is also a TÜV Austria certified auditor. After clinical training, he started working in the pharmaceutical industry in 1998. After several positions in marketing, medical affairs, and clinical research, he finally took over the drug safety department of Essex Pharma in Munich. In this position, he also acted as Stufenplanbeauftragter according to §63 Arzneimittelgesetz (German Drug Law) and was a member of the national pharmacovigilance working group of the Verband Forschender Arzneimittelhersteller e.V. (vfa). In 2004, he founded his own company Dr. Nibler & Partner, a consultancy and service provider for all aspects of pharmacovigilance. He acts as a Qualified Person for Pharmacovigilance in the EU (EU-QPPV) for several companies, and is engaged in pharmacovigilance system audits and preparation for authority inspections. Reinhard Nibler is the president of the Mitteleuropäische Gesellschaft für Regulatory Affairs e.V. (MEGRA) and a regular speaker at, and course leader of, pharmacovigilance-related training courses.

Vladimir Patchev is Bridging Manager of Product Life Cycle and Biomarker Issues with the Therapeutic Research Group Women’s Health of Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals. He has also served in leading positions in corporate drug discovery with Schering AG and Jenapharm. At the DUW he teaches basic aspects of drug discovery organization in the pharmaceutical industry. V. Patchev graduated and earned his doctoral degree from the Charité School of Medicine of the Humboldt University, Berlin. During his long academic career he was affiliated with the Max Planck Institute of Psychiatry (Munich), Tokyo Metropolitan Institute for Neuroscience, National Institutes of Health (Bethesda) and research institutes of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (Sofia). He has earned international recognition in research on the neuroendocrinology of reproduction and stress. He has authored one monograph, several book chapters and more than 50 peer-reviewed papers, served as reviewer for several major international scientific agencies, held a professorship at the Georgetown University Medical School (Washington), and was a recipient of the Stanley Foundation Research Award for studies on neuroendocrine mechanisms in the pathogenesis of affective disorders.

Prof. Dr. Uwe Rösler is professor of Animal Hygiene and Infectology. He is the director of the Institute of Animal Hygiene and Environmental Health of the Freie Univeristät Berlin since 2008. He studied veterinary medicine in Leipzig and in Switz-erland, and did his habilitation thesis on diagnosis and control of Salmonella infection in pigs. His field of expertise is the establishment and validation of activities to control food- associated zoonotic pathogens of livestock, epidemiological research on multiresistant bacteria in livestock farms, as well as research on aerogen distribution of pathogens in agriculture.

Prof. Dr. med. Ivar Roots studied medicine in Gießen and Berlin. He became a professor of clinical pharmacology at the Freie Universität Berlin in 1985. From 1993 to 2009 he held the chair of clinical pharmacology at the university medical school Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin. He was elected president of the German Society of Clinical Pharmacology and Therapy (1998–2005). Among many other publically funded research projects, Prof. Roots was initiator and speaker of the research group association “Pharmacogenetic Diagnostics: Improvement of Therapy and Drug Development”, established by the German Ministry of Research (1999–2003). By this comprehensive joint project, pharmacogenetics made a great step forward in Germany. Prof. Roots was a co-founder of 3 ClinicalResearch AG, a clinical research organization, as well as the principal founder of Cenimed GmbH, a Charité spin-off company specialized in pharmacogenetics. He is a member of the board of the Charité Research Organization GmbH and of the scientific advisory board of bio.logis GmbH, Frankfurt am Main. The main scientific interests of Prof. Roots include, among others, drug metabolism and pharmacogenetics with the aim of individualizing drug therapy.

Dipl.-Kfm. Wasko Rothmann M.A. ist seit 2009 wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter am Lehrstuhl für Betriebswirtschaftslehre, insb. Unternehmensführung & Organisation der Europa Universität Viadrina, Frankfurt (Oder). Darüber hinaus ist Herr Rothmann als selbstständiger Berater in den Bereichen Customer-Relationship-Management, Strategie und Organisation tätig. Herr Rothmann studierte neben Betriebswirtschaftslehre auch Neuere deutsche Literatur und Philosophie. Während seines Studiums arbeitete er als freier Mitarbeiter für radioeins.

Dr. Thorsten Ruppert is Senior Manager for Research, Development, and Innovation with Verband Forschender Arzneimittelhersteller e.V. – vfa (Association of Research-Based Pharmaceutical Companies). In 2000 he obtained a PhD in Biochemistry from the Freie Universität in Berlin for his work on catalytic RNA in the study group of Andres Jäschke. He then started to work with NOXXON Pharma AG as a scientist in the Research & Development Department. He switched to clinical research and later became Manager of Scientific Marketing, Business Development. In 2003, he joined vfa where he is – beside other areas – responsible for clinical trials and plays a central role in the clinical research field in Germany in coordination/cooperation with the 45 member companies of vfa. In this regard he also closely works together with the German regulatory authorities and ethics committees.

Dipl.-Pol. Katharina Schiederig ist wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiterin in der Arbeitsstelle für Gender und Diversity am Otto-Suhr-Institut für Politikwissenschaft der Freien Universität Berlin. Sie ist Diplom-Politologin und hat einen Master in Entwicklungsökonomie an Sciences Po Paris absolviert. Ihre Arbeitsschwerpunkte sind Arbeit, Geschlecht, Entwicklung und neue Informationstechnologien. In ihrer Doktorarbeit beschäftigt sie sich mit Gender und Diversity in transnationalen Unternehmen.

Dr. Jan Schildmann, M.A. is head of a NRW Nachwuchsforscher-gruppe on Medical ethics at the end of life: norm and empiricism at the Institut für Medizinische Ethik und Geschichte der Medizin, Ruhr-Universität Bochum. Following his studies in medicine (Berlin, London) and medical law and ethics (King's College London), he worked as a physician in internal medicine and as a researcher in the field of medical ethics. Michael Schipperges, Dipl.-Pol. und Master of Arts International Affairs (M.A.I.A.), ist Gründer und Inhaber von sociodimensions – Institut für soziokulturelle Forschung in Heidelberg. Er absolvierte ein Studium der Politikwissenschaften, Philosophie und Mathematik an den Universitäten Heidelberg, Berlin und Urbino (Italien) sowie ein Postgraduiertenstudium in International Relations am Bologna Center der Johns Hopkins University, School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). Von 1988 bis 2008 war er Mitarbeiter bei Sinus Sociovision GmbH, Heidelberg, und als Bereichsleiter verantwortlich für die internationale Milieu- und Trendforschung. Dipl.-Psych. Dr. Stefan Schmid ist seit 2000 in Fragen der interkulturellen Zusammenarbeit und Organisationspsychologie beratend tätig. Dr. Peter Serno is a pharmacist and obtained a PhD in Pharmaceutical Technology from the University of Munich. He has more than 25 years of professional experience in various areas of pharmaceutical formulation at Bayer. After developing parenteral dosage forms, he switched to the previous daughter company Tropon as head of formulation development. He then headed a group for drug delivery innovation and took over responsibility for solid dosage form development in Leverkusen (Germany). He is now Chief Scientist for pharmaceutical development and group leader at Bayer HealthCare in Berlin.

Wolfgang Sippl is Professor for Medicinal Chemistry and Head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the Martin-Luther-University of Halle-Wittenberg (Germany). He obtained a Ph. D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Düsseldorf in the group of Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Hans-Dieter Höltje and was a post-doctoral fellow at the Université Louis-Pasteur in Strasbourg (France) where he worked with Prof. Dr. Camille G. Wermuth. He then took a senior researcher position in Düsseldorf before moving to the University of Halle-Wittenberg as a full professor in 2003. His main interests are focused on computational chemistry and structure-based drug design and the application for identifying novel leads for epigenetic targets.

Manfred Stapff, MD PhD has extensive experience in clinical and pharmaceutical medicine that includes all aspects of drug development, from assessment of licensing candidates to clinical studies of all phases until post launch characterization. After practicing as a physician in the German Air Force and in the Policlinic for Internal Medicine of the University of Munich he acquired his pharmaceutical expertise in a range of positions from monitoring to leading clinical research and medical services departments in major pharmaceutical companies. This career led to a strong established record in global clinical research operations and in the drug lifecycle management process with a focus on efficient project management, technological innovation, and customer orientation. His publication list includes abstracts and articles in the cardiovascular area, clinical trials, project management, and the future environment of R&D.

Prof. Dr. Johannes Peter Surmann studied pharmacy and chemistry (Diplom 1974) in Marburg. In 1976, he was awarded a Ph.D., and in 1982 he habilitated in the subject of pharma-ceutical chemistry. He was on the faculty of the University of Marburg until 1986, then he joined the faculty of the University of Würzburg as a professor for pharmaceutical chemistry. In 1993, he became appointed professor of pharmaceutical analytical chemistry at the Humboldt University in Berlin, and in 2002 he moved to the Freie Universität Berlin after the pharmacy department at the Humboldt University was closed.

Prof. Dr. Dagmar Vinz ist Professorin für Politikwissenschaft mit dem Schwerpunkt Gender und Diversity am Otto-Suhr-Institut für Politikwissenschaft der Freien Universität Berlin. Sie ist wissenschaftliche Leiterin des weiterbildenden Masterstudiengangs „Gender und Diversity Kompetenz“. Prof. Vinz hat zahlreiche Veröffentlichungen zu Gender und Diversity vorgelegt; sie ist u.a. Mitherausgeberin des Sammelbandes „Diversity Studies. Grundlagen und disziplinäre Ansätze“. Ihre Schwerpunkte sind Gender und Diversity, Nachhaltigkeit, Arbeit und politische Ökonomie.

Axel F. Wenzel BSc MSc PhD FTOPRA has extensive experience in drug development with a focus on regulatory affairs (DRA). After leading the medical microbiology diagnostics laboratory at the Universität des Saarlandes, medical faculty in Homburg, he acquired his pharmaceutical expertise in a range of positions in drug development at the Novartis Research Institute (formerly the Sandoz Research Institute) in Vienna, Austria and at Merck Sharp & Dohme, Germany, progressing from bench researcher to Head of Project Management and New Drug Development. During the last 15 years, he has founded or cofounded and led several consultancies in the field of drug development (with a focus on DRA and pharmacovigilance), and he has been a founding and managing board member and the president (from 2006 to 2009) of The Organisation for Professionals in Regulatory Affairs (TOPRA), the largest such body in Europe. In addition, he was cofounder and, for more than five years, editor-in-chief of the journal TOPRA Regulatory Rapporteur, the largest EU-focused journal for DRA. He teaches at the Deutsche Universität für Weiterbildung as well as at the Universität Duisburg-Essen. He is the author of many publications, ranging from topical contributions in regulatory journals to contributions in scientific books and articles.
